Apply to the AAMC Fee Assistance Program!

Updated: Feb 17, 2022

Hey everyone!

I just applied to the AAMC Fee Assistance Program. My experience with the AAMC FAP is that it is similar to most scholarship applications. The biggest thing to know is that it is not tedious and you can SAVE up to $2000! I'm writing this today because my Pre-Med advisor hinted that it is difficult to apply to and to not expect too much out of it. HOWEVER, DO APPLY! You never know when something will end up helping you in the long run.

What You Should Know

-Takes about 1-2 hours depending on if you have all of the documents necessary (ID, W-2, and a confirmation signature).

-IT DOES NOT work retroactively (if you paid for something already they won't give you a refund).

-Takes up to 3 weeks to be processed.

-Apply EARLY Jan/Feb!

-The benefits last until the end of that year (I applied in Feb so if I am accepted it will last until Dec 31st).

-This Fee Assistance Program approval is not a guaranteed waiver of supplemental application fees. Contact medical schools directly regarding these fees.

-Regardless of how many Fee Assistance Program awards you receive, you only receive MCAT preparation benefits once.

Benefits:

* Waiver for all AMCAS fees for one (1) application with up to 20 medical school designations ($949 value). Fees will be charged for each school designation beyond 20.

* Complimentary two-year subscription to the Medical School Admission Requirements online database following account activation ($36 value). Access is automatically granted upon Fee Assistance Program approval.

* MCAT exam registration fees will be reduced $320 to $130 for the testing year. You may use your benefits to register for up to 4 exams prior to December 31, 2023 in accordance with the MCAT testing limits (Fees are subject to change for the 2023 testing year.) Please allow 10 minutes between the receipt of this approval and registering for an MCAT exam. During this time, we will send your FAP approval information to the MCAT Registration System.

*The MCAT Official Prep products benefit package is subject to change. The current MCAT Official Prep products benefit is the MCAT Official Prep Online-Only Bundle ($268.80 value), which includes all online MCAT Official Prep products. You have activated your MCAT preparation benefits, which you may receive only once.

*Consideration for financial assistance to obtain an updated evaluation to support an application for MCAT exam accommodations (For more information and instructions on how to apply, please visit aamc.org/accombenefit).

*AAMC PREview (Professional Readiness Exam) waiver for registration fees ($100 value).
