How to become a CNA/Patient Care Tech

Updated: Oct 13, 2020

So if you weren't blessed with a class in high school where you could become a tech and you would like to become certified this is for you.

There are many reason as to why you would want to become a tech. You can use it for hours if you want to go to PA or Med school, or it can be a great way to increase your income while working at a hospital.

To become a CNA or a patient care tech there are many different ways you can do this.

How to get certified...

1. Look up local CNA classes in your area.

You can do this by going to Google and looking up "CNA classes near me" or in a certain city. Once you do this you will have to enroll in a class that is usually 0-500 dollars. Make sure that this fee includes your state test that you have to pass. After you should attend the class and enroll in a test date this may take 3 weeks. Once you are certified look for a job at a local assisted living or at a hospital. There are also different apps that you can use to look for per diem jobs (aka as needed).

2. Go to NHA now

On the website above you are able to become certified as a patient care tech and other certifications. You do not have to attend a class. However you can take practice tests and learn with YouTube videos. Once you think you are ready take the exam and BAM you are now certified.

3. Check local colleges and High Schools

Often times your local college will offer a CNA course. It usually takes longer than the above methods however if you want a more traditional route this works. They usually help you with all of the steps in order to become certified.

If you are one of the lucky ones in high school where they offer a health academy TAKE ADVANTAGE. I know the work may be tedious but if you want to be in the health care field join an academy. Make sure to ask about what different certifications they offer.

In the end you know what route is best for you! I hope I helped.
